What You Focus on – GROWS. It’s all just a choice.

  • July 13, 2016
Are you trying to get a handle on your health but you’re convinced this is the body you’re stuck with after 40?
Are you craving a deeper more open relationship with your teenager, but you keep focusing on their faults?
Are you attempting to grow yourself as a person, but you keep slamming yourself with negative self talk?
FRIENDS!!  The 2nd law of Focus – is that it GROWS!  And analogous to a garden, if you’re focusing on the weeds, you’ll notice more weeds taking over.  Likewise if you focus on the flowers and you’ll notice the beautiful blooms.
Here’s the reality:
When you experience a negative thought about your situation, your mind goes back in your history bank and pulls out 100 other things (ok maybe exaggerating on the number – but you get the idea, it’s ALOT) that support your negative thought.
The same thing happens when you have a positive thought about your situation, your mind goes back in in time and reminds you of 100 other times that support your positive thought.
Here’s the great news: You get to decide what you want to focus on.
It’s all just a choice.  A choice that can grow in either direction.  And guess what?  It takes just as much energy to focus on something good as it does to focus on something bad.  So why waste time (which you can’t get back) on something that makes you feel lousy, when you can feel so much better by shifting your focus onto something that makes you feel amazing?
This week:
Challenge yourself to focus on the ease of leading a healthy life.
Challenge yourself to focus on all the good things your kids are doing.
Challenge yourself to focus on the steps your taking to grow in your own personal development.
And take a moment before your head hits the pillow at night to reflect on your positive focuses for the day.  You just might be surprised at where your focus begins when you wake up for a new day.
Here’s to allowing what you focus on to grow this month…

I’m a certified life and mindset coach, speaker and entrepreneur. I help people going through transitions kick the “I can’t” and the “I don’t know” to the curb and learn to embrace a healthy positive mindset so they can step into the next chapter with confidence, purpose and optimism. When I’m not coaching, you can find me on the mat teaching and taking hot yoga. I credit my 3 boys for all my coaching practice and my hubby Bill for always being my #1 client.
