I’ll never forget moving to California 13 years ago. This midwestern girl never left the city of Chicago prior to that. I was a grown woman but that didn’t stop the fear of the unknown to take over my life.
I was working with my first life coach at the time, way before life coaching became a mainstream vocation. She told me the goal of coaching was focusing on today going forward, not wasting time on the past. YES! Preparing for this big move across the country and working with my first coach came at the most perfect time. She taught me the power of focus and set me up with a homework assignment to focus on all the things I wanted to experience, people I wanted to meet, places I wanted to visit and most importantly to focus on how I wanted to feel. All of this – prior to moving. I set my intention to feel connected to others, to feel healthy and to feel adventurous.
Needless to say, focusing on those specific things set me up to get exactly that. I ended up connecting with a fun outgoing group of women, who became my social circle, support group and friends to this day. I sought out different types of fitness and got introduced to Bikram yoga and Nia classes that kept me in a healthy physical state. And the weekends became our get aways as we ventured off to explore all that California has to offer. The experience I focused on wanting to find prior to moving had indeed become my reality!
Scientists say when you plant a thought in your conscious mind, your unconscious mind goes to work to make it happen. Your unconscious mind is obedient, follows orders and doesn’t know the difference between what’s real and what’s not, what’s positive or negative, what’s true or false, it just pushes to do as it’s told.
This week, physically write down something you’d like to have, do, or be during the month of July. Then notice if you start to gravite to what you wrote down. Take notice if opportunities, people, resources coincidentally come your way….
Here’s to finding what you focus on!
