The truth about celebrating.

I went for a run this past weekend. I haven't ran in a long time. In the last stretch my mind was telling me to stop and walk back.

In my heart of hearts, I wanted to make it to the end without stopping. So I started to play a game of making mini markers, "just get to the palm tree" I said to myself and then as I got closer, I picked another marker beyond that one.

After playing that game, I began to vision what I would do when I made it back to my car. I told myself I would jump up and down and give myself a big WAHOO! Then planted that picture of me doing exactly that and kept running.

As I got to my car, I unconsciously unlocked the doors to get in. In that moment, I realized I needed to complete my vision. I went back to the side walk and did 5 jumping jacks and 5 jump squats smiling and saying WAHOO...(without worrying about passerby'ers 🤩).

Here's the thing, my mind wanted to just get in the car and head home without acknowledging my accomplishment.

YOU GUYS.

Celebrating every little thing is CRUCIAL to our well-being!

As a matter of fact the way that I begin every coaching call is with celebrations - my clients tell me their big and little celebrations.

WHY is this important?

Because when you practice celebrating - you condition your brain to look for more things to celebrate.

Neuroscience tells us that when you celebrate you release the "feel good" chemical - dopamine. Dopamine also acts as a neurotransmitter, sending signals to other neurons that serve as a pleasurable reward. The neurons that fire together - wire together. When you have a dopamine reward, your brain is becoming aware of what you did to deserve your "feel good", so it can repeat that action to experience it again.

This week I'd like to offer you celebrate EVERYTHING.

Every little win counts!

At the end of the day, what went well? What are you proud of?

Give yourself a giant bear hug, a high five as you pass a mirror or create any other physical moment that cements the feeling in your body. Then allow yourself to linger in the feel good that celebrating provides for as long as possible.

xoxo,

Patricia
